San Diego Medical Group has been providing excellence in medical care in San Diego since 1995. We are located in Hillcrest in the prestigious Mercy Medical building directly across the street from Scripps Mercy Hospital.

We have three superior medical Providers and a great staff dedicated to providing the best medical care to our patients. We provide a broad range of medical services including annual exams, well woman exams, treatment of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, lung disorders, kidney conditions and preventive screening.

We take pride in our highly efficient and well organized patient friendly office. We have extensive online services for patients to assist in appointments, test results, medication refills and direct office messaging. We strive to uphold the best and highest principles in the practice of modern day medicine.

If you are 65+, follow these steps!

If you are under 65 years old:

HMO Plan: Call your insurance and specify which doctor at San Diego medical group you want to see. Once done, you will receive a new insurance card in the mail and you can schedule an appointment.

PPO Plan: Call our office and book an appointment any time.

First time visit

We are excited to have you at San Diego Medical Group for the first time. Below are a few things to consider before your first appointment.

Please Bring with you:

1. Health insurance card/ information

2. Valid photo ID

3. List of all current medications

4. Payment method to collect your copay. We accept credit/ debit cards and checks.

Parking:

Please park in the parking structure adjacent to our building. Handicap parking is available across the street from our building. Parking in the structure is $5 for the first 3 hours which must be paid by credit or debit card. No office parking validation is needed. If you need to exchange cash for a onetime payment card please inquire at the front window.

We accept most insurance plans including several HMOs, PPOs, POS, Medicare, Medicaid, and Cash. We also accept many other commercial insurance that are not affiliated with an HMO or PPO. Please call our office if you do not see your plan listed.

Referrals

Most major health insurance carriers require participants to obtain a referral authorization from his/her primary care physician (PCP) before seeking care in a specialist’s office. You may be required to see your physician before your insurance will authorize it.

It is the patient’s responsibility to notify San Diego Medical Group of a referral  request prior to seeing a specialist for medical care. If your plan is an HMO product, please call the office to request a referral.If you are unsure whether your plan requires referrals, please check with your insurance company directly.

Most referrals can and will be processed within 5-7 business days

Frequently Asked Questions

Internists specialize in the prevention, detection and treatment of illness in adults 18 years of age and older. We serve as the Primary Care Physician the one to contact first for all your medical needs.

In addition to caring for routine problems such as ear infections, colds, rashes, headaches, etc. in the office, we also have the expertise to deal with such complicated illnesses as heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes.

Yes! Please review the section on accepted insurance as well as how to become a patient. There are multiple resources there to assist you with becoming a patient.

Please request your pharmacy to notify us when you need refills. You may also request refills through our Patient Portal of by calling the office and leaving a message on the medical refill voicemail. Please allow up to 72 hours for refills to be approved. Refills are done during normal business hours Monday to Friday.

Yes. Please allow 5 to 7 business days for referrals to specialists to be processed.

All referrals must be authorized by the physician and you may be required to come in for an appointment before a referral is made.

If you are seen by a specialist without a referral, your insurance company may not cover the cost of the visit and you may be responsible for the entire cost. Referrals may not be done retroactively. It is your responsibility to obtain a referral before you see your specialist.

In the event of a life threatening emergency call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. If you are sick please call the office at 619-718-9444. Same day appointments are usually available.

Appointments can be scheduled most efficiently through our Patient Portal. Otherwise you may call the office 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday except holidays. Sick patient appointments often may be made the same day.

If you are unable to make your appointment, please allow 2 business days to cancel your appointment. This is a courtesy to us and to other patients since your cancellation will free an appointment for a sick patient to be seen. Appointments canceled sooner will incur a $25 cancellation fee.

Yes, you may call the office anytime. However, we encourage patients to use our Patient Portal where you may e-message your Provider. This is often a more efficient means of communication with faster response times. Nevertheless, you may always call the office and inform the staff member the nature of your call. Your message will be communicated to your Provider and your call be returned by staff with an answer to your question. You may need to schedule an appointment.

If you are admitted to the hospital we request that you inform the hospital to send your medical records to our office and schedule a follow up appointment as soon as possible when you return home so we can take care of you and your medical problems.

We will refer you to the laboratory contracted with your insurance company. Fasting labs: This means 12 hours without food.. You may drink water or black coffee only, and you should take your medications that are scheduled for the day, except for diabetes medicines.

All lab and X-ray results are posted on our Patient Portal.

If your Primary Care Physician is not available, another Provider in the office will be able to see you.

We are concerned with whole person care, which includes behavioral healthcare. We treat mental health conditions and we also refer patients to behavioral health specialists.
